The Tama Starphonic Walnut 14" by 7" is built for the more picky drummer that demands a warm, mellow, and layered sound from their snare. As such, the shell has been built entirely by hand in Japan using walnut to complete a 7-ply wall that's a nice and thin 6mm thick, where the final, seventh outer layer of Black Walnut Burl is what gives this snare its distinct and complex look. The fitted Tama Grooved tension hoops ensure efficient overtone dampening while the Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy snare mat gives every nuance and ghost-note the definition they deserve.

The 7 inch depth and 14 inch diameter shape more than enough punch, and since the Starphonic Walnut has been designed with the studio in mind, the heads and hoops are secured by a set of 'Freedom Lugs' with Claw Hooks - an awesome, Tama-developed innovation that supports fast drumhead changes since there's no need to remove all of the hoops and rods from the shell. This is not just handy if you need to swap a head for a fresh one mid-session, but aids a little studio experimentation.
